Caption: Five Year Local Option Tax for Curry County Law Enforcement

Question: Should the County levy $2.23/$1,000.00 of Assessed Value July 2024-2029, funding 24-hour Sheriff Patrols and overall improved public safety?

This Measure may cause property taxes to increase more than three percent.

Summary: Due to the state of County Finances, the Curry County Sheriff's Office is currently limited to operating on day and swing shifts only. Passage of this Law Enforcement Levy for $2.23 tax per $1,000.00 of Assessed Value, estimated to raise $8,306,430.00 annually, will improve all aspects of public safety including but not limited to the addition of new patrol deputies to ensure Countywide 24-hour services, improved response times, and enhanced jail services for both County and City arrests for the next five years. This will also prevent any reduction in the current levels of public safety services. Upon passage of the Levy, a seven member Review Board, comprised of Curry County citizens, will be appointed to oversee the use of the levy funds and ensure that they are spent in accordance with this Measure to fund public safety.

The estimated tax cost for this measure is an ESTIMATE ONLY based on the best information available from the County Assessor at the time of the estimate and may reflect the impact of early payment discounts, compression, and the collection rate.
