FOR THE HEALTH OF IT

Calcium supplements can reduce colon polyps and precancerous growth by as much as 36% if enough vitamin D is present.

The need for vitamin D rises with age to more than double the government’s recommended amount (350-400) to 1,000 IU.

Good sources of calcium and vitamin D are low-fat dairy, fortified orange juice, fortified cereal, and canned salmon (especially important in the fall and winter).

TM (transcendental meditation) is a safe, noninvasive, free, non-drug technique for extending your life.

People over 65 who are regularly involved in a variety of activities reduce their risk of dementia.

BSE (mad cow disease) can now be detected in blood tests.

Honey may contain botulism spores and can be fatal to infants 12 months or under. It’s okay for older kids.

Obesity may soon replace smoking as the number one cause of death in the United States.

People who eat lots of whole grain cereals and breads reduce their chances of becoming obese.

“Ginseng dramatically decreases the blood thinning power of Coumadin, setting the stage for potentially deadly consequences.”

Don’t eat any type of raw sprouts or feed them to children.  Cooking thoroughly makes them safe but simply washing them does not.

The worldwide rise in overweight and obesity will result in chronic diseases that will overwhelm the world’s capacity to provide care.

Symptoms tell us something is wrong, but they change with age. Confusion, pain, dizziness, incontinence, loss of appetite and diminished capacity to perform daily activities are not natural.

Strength training is recommended for everyone.

Herbal supplements are not subjected to quality control by the FDA.

Multi-tasking is less efficient and causes more task repetition and stress that is associated with short-term memory loss and insomnia.

When insulin produced by the brain is severely reduced, brain cells deteriorate. This is thought to be a third type of diabetes and is associated with the development of Alzheimer’s.

Early detection and treatment can reduce the progression of Alzheimer’s by 50%.

Red delicious apples contain higher levels of disease fighting chemicals than other apples.

Cutter advanced spray is a worthwhile alternative to DEET as a mosquito repellant and protection from the West Nile Virus.
