The Planning Division is responsible for comprehensive land-use planning through the continuing development of the Curry County Comprehensive Plan as mandated by Oregon Law.  The Comprehensive plan sets forth the general, long range land-use policies established by Curry County.  This plan is implemented by regulating ordinances such as the Curry County Zoning and Land Division Ordinances.  The plan and implementing ordinances must be adopted by the Curry County Board of Commissioners and be consistent with the Oregon Statewide Planning Goals and applicable Oregon Revised Statutes (ORS)/Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR).  The Planning Division also administers ordinances relating to flood/natural hazard damage prevention and rural address and road naming system management.  In addition, all development permit applications are reviewed by the Planning Division and coordinated with other applicable regulating agencies to insure compliance with applicable land-use regulatory ordinances.

Environmental Sanitation

Over 30 percent of Oregonians rely on septic systems to treat wastewater from their homes and businesses. Curry County Environmental Sanitation is a contract county under the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), and regulates the siting, design, installation and ongoing operation and maintenance of septic systems. Without this oversight, septic systems can fail or malfunction, pollute Oregon’s land and waterways with raw sewage and create public health hazards.

Department of Environmental Quality, regulates onsite waste treatment siting, issues permits for installation, authorizes use of onsite systems, conducts site evaluations for placement, and inspects installations of onsite systems.  For more information please contact DEQ at 541 269-2721

Building Codes Division

The Building Division issues permits and provide inspections for construction of 1 and 2 family dwellings and certain commercial and industrial structures through the Oregon State Building Codes.  The Division issues permits and provide inspections for set-up of manufactured homes in the County through the Oregon Manufactured Dwellings Code.  In addition, the Division issues permits and provides inspections for construction of plumbing and mechanical installations under the Uniform Plumbing and Mechanical Codes.  These services are provided for the County as well as the Cities of Port Orford and Gold Beach. These are integral to the safe and effective construction of structures in Curry County.
Curry County added the Building Codes division in the early 1970’s.

A variety of other groups work with this Department including the Building Codes Appeal Board.
